Reporting a reading that looks wrong

This is the most useful mail the site receives. A measurement tool that quietly prints a wrong number is the one failure that matters here, so a report with numbers attached is worth more than any amount of feedback in the abstract. Please include:

• your browser and its version, and your operating system;
• the device: make, model, and whether it is wired, 2.4 GHz wireless or Bluetooth;
• which tool you were using, and exactly what it printed, including any refusal message word for word;
• what you expected instead, and what you are basing that on, such as the figure your manufacturer's software reports.

Every tool displays the underlying numbers as well as the verdict, so copying that block into the mail usually captures everything needed to reproduce the problem.

Contributing bench data

The methodology page is specific about what has been validated against physical hardware and what has not. The polling estimator has been checked on real hardware at 125 Hz; the tiers from 250 to 8000 Hz are so far verified against simulated distortions only. The DPI accuracy bands come from 90 complete runs across four different mice.

Readings from hardware outside that set are directly useful. If you want to contribute, send the tool's output alongside the settings your manufacturer's software reports for the same device, and say which DPI step and polling rate were configured at the time. Hardware that disagrees with the tool is more useful than hardware that agrees.

Anything else

Corrections to the methodology, questions about how a measurement works, privacy questions, and press or linking enquiries all go to the same address.

One person reads this mailbox, so a reply may take a few days. Reports that include the numbers get answered first, because they can be acted on without a round trip.
